We can be happy to be by ourselves.

Being lonely isn't the absence of someone, it is the absence of someone when you need them ❤. As sometimes we can be happy to be by ourselves. We can feel happy to disconnect and focus on our own needs for a change.
This doesn't happen as easily for most children. They don't have a strong sense of self yet and often need others more, to connect with. This helps them feel connected and not alone.
Sometimes it is enough to play with siblings or friends, and other times they may want you there as well. This is why small children will often want you to sit and watch them play. It offers reassurance and is comforting to have you there.
This is can be exhausting as a parent, feeling like you don't get enough of a break. So reminding yourself how much it means to them and that it is normal developmentally, can sometimes help. ☆
