Understanding Behavior

Understanding Behavior

At its core, positive parenting is about looking past behavior to discover the true feeling or need BEHIND it πŸ‘€ Parents often adopt the idea that "toddlers are terrible" before their child even enters into those formative years so they struggle to find the beauty in toddlerhood. πŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ’›

It's so common to say that certain actions are "bad" behavior and we must find a way to "fix" it or our child will grow up to be x, y, or z...But the key to understanding behavior is to know that all behavior is communication. We must try not to label certain actions as "bad behavior" because our toddler is just reacting to a need that's unmet or to a big emotion they might be experiencing. We must try not to think of it as "fixing" a behavior but to UNDERSTAND why the behavior is happening and find the root cause of the action.

Remember, the entire point of the toddler years is for your child to become a separate individual from you, as their parent and caregiver, and really from all their parents and primary caregivers.

While you're reading through those 9 common needs that a toddler has in their young formative years, keep in mind that actions like jumping off the walls (and couches and tables...) and repeating "I do it!" to each and every thing you do are NORMAL. They are not bad behavior, they are just toddler behavior πŸ’«

🌟The Key to Positive Parenting and Understanding Toddler Behavior are just 2 modules in the Toddler Parenting Starter Kit that I have to offer via the link in my bio. 🌟

Parents and caregivers shouldn't have to navigate their way through toddlerhood alone πŸ€—
