Our Children's Abilities

Our Children's Abilities

We're always so hyper-concerned with making sure our children can memorize the alphabet, recognize letters and numbers, count to 100, name shapes, and identify colors.

The funny thing is... by doing this, we're totally underestimating our children's abilities.

Memorizing is the most shallow, simple level of learning - meaning every child will do these things effortlessly when they're ready for it.

Real learning happens when a child is able to freely analyze, evaluate, and create.

It happens when they're able to categorize objects in nature based on their observations, draw the things they saw on their morning nature walk, plan a game or an experiment, design a city of blocks and figurines, or cook a feast in their pretend kitchen.

This academic push in early childhood stems from a deep lack of understanding of early brain development. The only way for children to reach their optimal cognitive potential is through pure, unstructured, child-led play.
