No Matter the Age

No Matter the Age

Posted @withregram@beyond_the_birth 😭I know it’s hard to hear your little one cry mama, no matter the age.⁣

😥I’m right there with you, it can be so triggering! Especially when you don’t know why they’re crying or upset. ⁣

😓You’ve gone down the list of things that could be wrong and you got nothing—except an upset child in your arms.⁣

Here’s what I DO know and what you should too...⁣

👉🏼You can never go wrong with holding and supporting your child through their upset. ⁣

👉🏼It’s not your job to fix their upset but just lovingly support them through it.⁣

👉🏼You can never spoil a child by consistently responding to their upset with love and empathy.⁣

👉🏼You can never hurt your child further with your calm presence (even when it seems like their upset suddenly gets stronger and they push away) this only occurs because they finally feel safe to release it all in your presence, not because their better off being left alone with it.⁣

👉🏼You are the most important piece of the puzzle when they’re upset because you provide the calm within their storm that allows them to regulate down.⁣

👉🏼Your response and ability to stay calm is what is in fact allowing them to practice and gradually understand over time “self-soothing” or emotion regulation. They’ll be better equipped to do this when they’re neurologically ready because you were always there modeling how it’s done.⁣

👉🏼You may not always know the root of their upset, but you will always be the answer to it.⁣

👉🏼You are your child’s best bet.⁣

Let the above sink in mama and may it comfort you when it gets stormy and you’re feeling unsure. ⁣

Again, you’re their answer—always. 💛✌️
