Finding Parenting Strengths

The majority of you said No.⠀
⠀
This was the response when I asked if you parents knew what your parenting strengths were, after I shared a few of mine during a story a few weeks back on my IG stories.⠀
⠀
I’m not entirely surprised, there are more reasons to NOT know your parenting strengths, then To know them. We are busy, moving, shaking, feeding, wiping, shopping, kissing, comforting, calling, reminding, helping and many other things!⠀⠀
AND… there’s so much benefit to knowing what your strengths are, because then instead of gathering information from an Instagram profile and thinking “ugh, one more thing!” (Like don’t ever tell your child “good job!” or don’t say No when your child is doing something dangerous, redirect) you instead think, “My super power is being supportive and loving, I know what’s right for our relationship!”⠀
⠀
How do we find our strengths?⠀
⠀
Inside the Joyful Parenting Collective this is a WHOLE pillar in the core pillar section, and will help you not only find your strengths, but also your children’s and your partners (when/if that’s applicable). ⠀⠀
We all have them. We might not have transferred them to parenting yet, but maybe at work we are super organized, maybe we are amazing listeners in our friendships, maybe we are so attuned to other people’s feelings, or maybe we are life of the party (when there isn’t a pandemic and parties are a thing)!⠀
⠀
Once we can identify our strengths, then this incredible thing can happen, we can move FROM them! We see a situation that calls for holding a loving boundary and we think, “Hey! I got this, I’m amazing at holding boundaries!” Or we see a situation where our child is doing the slow melt and we think, “I am so loving! Cue hug!"⠀⠀
What I love about this ‘way of parenting’ is that it isn’t about doing things totally differently, but instead turning up the volume on what already makes you an amazing parent (because you ARE an amazing parent).
