Empathy pt.2

It may sound counterintuitive but in order to empathize, we need to first listen to ourselves and ensure we feel safe, happy and secure.
🌿And for these positive emotions to happen, self-awareness is key - for if we are not in tune with our internal experiences, we would not know how to nourish our soul.
🌿This is the same for children. Often, they do not express empathy not because they aren’t capable of it. They may need guidance (check Tip #1) or they could simply be overwhelmed by big feelings like anger, anxiety, or shame.
We can help our little ones identify their thoughts and emotions by letting them talk freely or tell stories. Take special care not to judge or steer the conversation your way. Listen with your full presence. For younger ones, I like to use storybooks and toys to connect with them.
🕊And when children feel comfortable, they will naturally develop an ability to tune into others’ feelings and perspectives.
